Nicosia:
Saturday 7 March 2015, Pallas Theatre, Paphos Gate, 17:00
Paphos: Sunday
8 March 2015, Cultural Centre “Technopolis 20”, 17:00
In
collaboration with the Οrganization “European
Capital of Culture – Pafos 2017”
The exceptional String Trio made up of the musicians
of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Orchestra Wolfgang Schroeder (violin), Sorin Alexandru Horlea (viola) and
Peter Gospodinov (cello) will give two chamber music concerts within the
established series organized by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation.
The Trio will interpret Johann
Sebastian Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 in Sitkovetsky’s arrangement for string trio. The great German composer
wrote the Variations for
keyboard instrument after a commission from the Russian ambassador to the
Dresden court with the request “to be cheered up a little". Bach’s
response was a rigorous and inspired work: a set of 30 variations
with an amazing range of styles, forms and emotions. This deeply humanistic music speaks to us even more powerfully in
today’s troubled times. Join these concerts to enjoy its marvels!
With the
present concerts, the established chamber music series of the CySO travels to
Paphos for the first time.
